Born in Singapore, Angelina MeiMei Tan began learning the piano at the age of 13. In the same year, she was invited by the then Singapore Broadcasting Corporation, now known as Media Corp, to perform in the “Fun on Caldecott Hill”, a radio program recording for gifted children. At 14 years old, she was selected to sing for the Pope John Paul II & the Queen Elizabeth II with the Peter Low’s Choir. Despite being equipped with little experience in performing & playing the piano at that time, Angelina was invited by numerous piano teachers in Singapore to perform as Guest performer in their student’s or their own concerts. With just only 4 years of experience in piano performing, she received her grade 7 with distinctions. In 1990, Angelina received her grade 8 with good distinctions & was offered a chance to go to London for a scholarship audition. That same year, she also received the honor & special certificate from the the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for having passed the highest orders of the Board’s examinations. She has performed in master classes conducted by Professor Naoyuki Taneda, Boaz Sharon… just to name a few. She was selected to play a in numerous consultation lessons with various concert pianists.

In 1994, Angelina was awarded her first diploma in piano performance with top marks and was then invited & admitted as Associate of the Trinity College of Music. Angelina has performed in numerous concerts in Singapore, USA, Poland and also in Germany.

Due to her strong love for teaching children, Angelina gave up her chances to train as a concert pianist. Despite of the numerous advices given by various concert pianists to go ahead, she rejected the offers of the scholarship auditions and decided to train as a teacher instead. Among her student’s includes top prizes & positions winners in National & International piano competitions in Germany and in the European Union. Some has proceeded to further their musical education in various countries like Canada and Germany.

In December 2002, Angelina came to Germany. She has studied in the Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium and has in December 2008 attained her Masters of Music in Piano Padegogy there.

In 2014, Angelina was invited to join the Jury of the Jugendmusiziert 2014.

In October 2016, Angelina participated in the 17th Osaka international Music competition as a finalist. She was the only finalist chosen from the EU.

In April 2022, Angelina was awarded the 3rd prize in the International Chopin Ave Piano Competition, Category M2. This category is meant for graduates who are actively teaching Piano.

In November 2023, Angelina was awarded the 1st place in the WNYLE International Piano Competition 2023 in Finland winning 99.9% / 100%

On the 10th December 2023, Angelina was awarded a certificate of distinction for her dedication to the art of excellence in piano teaching. This certificate can be found in the gallery of this website.

In her free time, she enjoys Ballet, swimming, reading and spending quality time with her friends and her cats. She can now speak 4 languages – English, German, Mandarin, Cantonese. These are the languages she uses to teach all her students.
